Great Support for Community Sport

Hardie Park in Stanford-le-Hope are hosting a Community Sports Day and Big Lunch on Sunday 23rd June from 1pm to 5pm. The event is free to attend and has been supported by big local sporting providers including East Thurrock Football Club Youth Section, Stanford Rugby Club and Fusion Netball. Hassenbrook Ortu Academy have kindly agreed the use of their field for activities and complimentary parking for visitors on the day.
Rob Groves, CEO of Hardie Park said, ‘The event was planned as a result of a social media community poll where various sporting activities came out high on the list of things local people would like to see in our events programme. It provided a great opportunity to ask local sports clubs to deliver activities with a view to encouraging more people to take up sport or engage in different sports. Aimed at all ages, a Yoga instructor, a Personal Trainer and walking groups will be making an appearance. There will be have-a go-activities, a chance to talk to coaches including a martial arts academy, a health check service by Thurrock Council, some fun family races, tug-o-war and an athletics challenge.’
Terry Keating, from East Thurrock Football Club said, ‘As well as coaches from the Rocks youth section, who will be involving youngsters in a range of football based fun and activities, we will also be bringing along the Essex Senior Cup which the Rocks recently won for the first time in our fifty-year history. Plenty of photo opportunities to snap your youngsters with this huge and historic piece of silverware. Also present will be Rocks manager John Coventry, and we also hope to have a few of the first team players coming along. So, pop along for a chat with us about the club, how you can get involved, our role in the community, and our plans for the future.’
The ‘Big Lunch’ is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. The Community Sports Day provides a perfect opportunity to take part in this sociable initiative at the park.
