Thurrock’s business and voluntary sector representatives came together at The Community House, Grays, to celebrate the official launch of Thurrock CVS fundraising project Giving for Thurrock (GiFT).
John Kent, Giving for Thurrock’s local giving officer, introduced the project spoke of the importance of strengthening the links between voluntary and community groups and businesses in Thurrock.
GiFT, has been created by Thurrock CVS and is supported by intu Lakeside, Port of Tilbury and other local businesses as well as Thurrock Council. It aims to raise money to support local community groups and organisation, in Thurrock, to help them continue their vital work supporting local people in need.
John Kent explained how representatives of the voluntary, public and business sectors have worked together to establish GiFT and have agreed to prioritise supporting young people in Thurrock – particularly young carers and looked after children – and older people who are alone or facing dementia.
Speaking after the launch John said “There is so much good will in Thurrock and it was great to see so many local businesses and groups here today all committed to making a positive difference. Just today we have seen businesses agree to roll out payroll giving to their staff, offer to host events and received really generous cash donations. There are many ways for people to get involved in GiFT - by supporting one of our planned events, making a donation via the Thurrock CVS website or maybe running an event of their own.”thurrockcvs.org/giving-for-thurrockfacebook.com/GiFThurrocktwitter.com/GiFThurrock
